Return of the Cetra
Deep in the Forgotten City, located on the Northern Continent, a palace slept beneath a barrier. For two thousand years this Palace, and the surrounding buildings within the walls, slept in protective slumber.
But the King and Queen of this hidden empire were not lost to time. Protected from the ravages of time by Porphyric Hemophilia (Vampirism), they resurfaced after the fall of the corporation of vampires to resurrect their own people... The Cetra.
The Revival of the Cetra Capitol
When the Capitol was awakened by the command of the King, dissolving the barrier that had appeared as a mountain for two millennia, all those still within the city awakened back to life. These surviving Cetra knew nothing of the years they had slept, and were soon informed by the king himself. Those first few days after the awakening were spent in blissful unknowing by many of those survivors... but the military branches were forced to deal with a threat even in that first week, the threat of a surviving monster that had survived with them.
After King Lestros explained the situation to his subjects after the threat of the Symbiont was apparently dealt with, the Cetra were left to deal with the realization in their own ways. Some accepted it gracefully, others were distraught, and yet others burned with a thirst to reclaim their previous territories from the Humans.
Within the month, a significant force of the Cetra Armies were aboard the flagship with the King and Queen. Sailing across the ocean, they came to the old town of Nibelheim, still named and located where it had been in 'their time.' With self-righteous strength, the forces struck the town and brought it to its knees. Nibelheim fell to Cetran control.
The hunger for territory was not sated however, and the forces of the Cetra continued...
Now with the elation of one conquered town to boost morale, the King ordered the flagship to the island of the Ancient Temple. It was here that they found the Temple had been taken... The Black Materia lost. That was a loss, but not defeat for the Cetra. No, the King had something else in mind, something beneath the site of the old temple. So down they went, ice stairs conjured by one of the Warmages, into the pit left from the Temple and The Black Materia. It was here that Lestros awakened another sleeping force the world had not seen... He revived a group of surviving Terrans whom had been sealed since the destruction of the lost planet. The Counts!
Vilus, the leader Countess, was happy to be released... as were the other Counts. Little did the Cetra know, but they had released a force that had been imprisoned by the Ancient Terrans for good reason. The Counts were cunning and deadly, but used the naiveté of the King to their advantage. Mideel was the next territory the Cetra forces were eager to reclaim and the Counts were all to happy to oblige. Taking their leave of the flagship upon reaching the island, the Counts decimated the city upon Mideel. It was a massacre, those who did not flee for their lives or hide sufficiently were slaughtered. Even many of those who tried to run or hide were slain.
While the Counts had their way with Mideel, the forces of the Cetra moved on to Cosmo Canyon. By this time, reinforcements and supplies had joined the flagship in preparation for the next battle. The Humans however, were not as unprepared as before. Cosmo was the gathering place for troops amassed from all across the planet ready to put an end to the Cetran Threat. What ensued was a battle of epic proportions, the Humans against the Cetra.
It was before this battle, in the time between the revival of the Counts and the arrival of the Cetra at Cosmo Canyon Area, that something drastic happened. Gaia, the Goddess of the planet, the sentient force of the planet itself, cut her link to 'Her Children.' While the Cetrans were remembered through history as beings able to speak to the planet and commune with the souls of the dead, inheritors of the Promised Land, this gift was not to be taken for granted. These gifts were stripped from all surviving Cetra, Gaia's punishment for their transgressions against their fellow life forms and for turning away from her needs.
The battle at Cosmo was waged on two fronts, there was the main force attacking head on and the special group sent underground through the cave of the Gi. The tunnel assault was thwarted by Nanaki and those with him. On the surface, the frontal assault was brutal. Airships, Aeons, Spellcasters, Knights, Paladins, Fighters, they all clashed in a bloody clash on the red clay. But when a Vampire Lord assaulted the Cetra King and the leader of the Healers gave her life to protect him, the bloodbath came to a screeching halt.
An Archangel of Gaia descended from the heavens to chastise the mortals on both sides of the conflict. Of the survivors, the girl had been a beloved of the Goddess, remaining pure and innocent even while those around her thirsted for war. After sealing the area from all malicious intent, the Archangel brought the soul and essence of the beloved healer with him to the light realm and left all the survivors to deal with their sins.
